Are you considering a home purchase?  Think it might be fun to head out this weekend and check out some open houses?  Great!  This is a good way to get a feel for what homes are available in a neighborhood and what the prices are.  You can use the links below to search open houses.

Here are some tips for making the most of your visit.

Open House Agent Represents The Seller – often times the agents holding the open house represent the seller or it’s one of the listing agent’s colleagues.  We always recommend that you have your OWN agent.  If you are already working with an agent be sure to tell the open house agent that you have representation.

Loose Lips Sink Ships – Whether you already have an agent or not, be mindful of what you tell the agent holding the open house.   If you are a serious buyer you may inadvertently give up information that could hurt you in a negotiation.

Ask Questions About Features – This is a good time to ask questions about the property while they are fresh in your minds.  Take notes.   If you think of additional questions after you leave and are already working with an agent call your agent to get additional information.

Providing Your Contact Information – Many agents at open houses are on the hunt for clients.  Know that if you provide your contact information you can expect phone calls and emails after the open house.

The Shocket Team firmly believes that EVERY buyer deserves their OWN representation.  If you see an open house this weekend and aren’t already working with an agent reach out, we’re here to help.
